Dr. Barajas received the 2019 IEEE Huntsville Section Professional of the Year Award for significant works and accomplishments towards the advancement of the IEEE Huntsville Section.

The 2019 HATS Professional of the Year (POY) Awards Dinner and 50th Anniversary Celebration took place on June 20, 2019, at the Huntsville Botanical Garden’s Grand Hall. The speakers for this year’s event were Debbie McLemore-Baugh, Lead PM for Army Futures Command and Bill Roark, co-founder of Torch Technologies and co-founder and CEO of Starfish Holdings.

Leandro has been an active IEEE member and volunteer for over 20 years  (Student Member ’94 – Member ’98 – Senior Member ’06).  He is currently the IEEE Huntsville Section Vice-Chair and the Chapter Founder & Chair of the IEEE Joint Robotics & Automation – Controls Systems (JRACS) Society in Huntsville, AL. He has also been the Chapter Chair and Vice-Chair of the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society, IEEE Southeastern Michigan Section, Detroit, MI.
